There are people who make you breathe a little deeper, lower your shoulders, and feel safe. Katja is one of those people. She is a medically trained physiotherapeutic masseuse with several years of experience from the spa and wellness industry, but her treatments are about much more than just releasing tense muscles. For Katja, body, mind, and nervous system are inextricably linked, which is why her approach is always holistic. With a combination of classic massage, modern treatment techniques, and a deep understanding of how the nervous system affects our well-being, she creates treatments where you get the opportunity to slow down and return to the calm within your own body. In addition to her treatments, Katja also facilitates guided events including ceremonial cacao, yin yoga, meditation, and bodily rituals. Common to everything she does is the desire to create a safe space where you can let go of everyday demands and feel yourself again. We sat down with Katja and asked her 10 questions about her work, her view on well-being, and the small things in everyday life that can make a bigger difference than most of us think. Perhaps you will recognize yourself in some of her answers. Perhaps you will be inspired to take better care of your body. Or perhaps you will simply want to experience the calm that so many describe after a treatment with her. Let's get to know Katja a little better. Can one massage make a difference? I believe we underestimate how much the body can change when it finally gets to relax. Yes, it can. A massage can give the body a much-needed break, release tension, and help you shift gears. It is often here that many realize how much their body actually needed a break. In a busy and pressured everyday life, we can easily find ourselves in a constant state of alert, where the body is in fight or flight and is constantly ready to handle the next thing, even if we are actually just sitting still. When we lie down on the couch and give the body peace, touch, and presence, it can be an invitation to slow down. For me, this is actually one of the finest things about massage. Here we can move from a state of alert to a more calm and relaxed state. This can be felt as deeper breathing, softer and more relaxed muscles, and a feeling of being able to let go more both mentally and physically. "So a single treatment can make a noticeable difference..." However, if you experience recurring tension or stress in your body, it is often the combination of treatment, breaks, and your daily habits that creates a more lasting improvement. I usually say that a treatment can be the beginning - but it is also the care you give your body between treatments, and the small tips I send you off with, that help the body hold on to the calm. How do you recharge after a busy week? I believe we all need a place where we can slow down and just be. I reset. I love going to the sauna, taking a long bath, and giving myself a good facial treatment where I go deep and pamper myself. It's one of my ways to fully get into my body and let go of the week's pace. For me, it's not about luxury. It's about allowing myself to breathe. I love music. The way it can change my mood and energy still fascinates me. Sometimes that's actually all it takes. But I also love the really simple things. Finding a sunny spot in the garden. With a good cup of coffee or tea and just sitting for a while, without having to do anything. That's often when I feel my body and thoughts calm down again. "Calm doesn't have to be something grand. Sometimes it's the small breaks that make the biggest difference." I think we've become really good at planning our days. But maybe a little worse at planning our breaks. For me, these small moments help to provide new energy - both as a person and as a therapist. What is your goal with each treatment? My biggest hope is that you leave here thinking... Wow... what just happened? My goal is for you to leave here with the feeling that both body and mind have been allowed to breathe. That you feel a peace you may have been missing for a long time. A feeling that the body can finally let go. When the body releases, the nervous system can also shift gears. From constant alarm to a more calm state. This is often called rest and digest. The state where the body can recover, digest, and regain balance. Therefore, for me, a treatment is not just about the muscles. It's about the whole person. "I hope you feel what it's like when the body finally gets to completely relax." When you leave here, you will feel that very special feeling of being deeply relaxed. Present. And at home within yourself. What does well-being mean to you? We've made well-being something we do once in a while. For me, it's about something entirely different. For me, well-being is feeling good in your own body and in your own life. It's about taking care of yourself. Prioritizing time to exercise. Eating well and varied. And giving yourself space to breathe and be present. Without constantly feeling that you have to rush to the next thing. Well-being is not just treatments and breaks. It's also the choices we make for ourselves in everyday life. Listening to the body. Giving it what it needs. And creating a life where there is room for - energy, movement, calm, joy. "Sometimes it's about allowing yourself to do a little less." For me, it ultimately comes down to that feeling of truly being well. With a small budding bubble of joy in your stomach. When do you feel you have made a difference for someone? I feel it when you tell me that you found exactly the breathing room you needed and especially through the experiences I create in my events. Whether it's meditation, sauna infusion, or one of my sensory rituals. I often receive a personal story from a participant afterwards. Perhaps they've been through a difficult period. Illness, or are in the middle of a daily routine with small children where there hasn't been much room for themselves. Here, I feel that I have succeeded in creating exactly the space they needed. A space where they could relax. Let go of everyday life for a while and come home to their own body. "It's these moments that remind me why I love what I do." One of the most beautiful things for me is when an experience means so much that you want to come again. Or pass it on to someone you care about. It deeply touches me. What do you wish more people did for their bodies in everyday life? I believe we would have fewer pains if we became better at listening to our bodies before they scream. The body actually constantly sends small signals. The question is, do we notice them? We are so good at pushing ourselves forward. We often think: "I just need to..." But the body rarely thinks the same. Many believe that the body only gives up when it hurts. But often it started whispering long before. It tells us that the body needs something else than what we are giving it right now. Not because it's against us. But because it's trying to help us, and often it doesn't take much. More movement, more breaks, deep breaths. "...and less guilt about prioritizing oneself. That can make a big difference." What do you want people to experience with you? I hope you don't just feel the treatment. I hope you feel the sense of having landed. I look forward to welcoming you into my sensory universe. I hope that even with the first stroke, you feel the passion, intimacy, and warmth that I bring to my treatments. But most of all, I hope you immediately feel that there is space for you here. Exactly as you are. Here you don't need to be anything for anyone. You don't need to perform, you don't need to rush. You don't need to live up to anything. "Here, you are simply allowed to be." That's the feeling I hope you take home with you. Not just a relaxed body. But the feeling of having had a moment that was completely your own. What is your guilty pleasure? That's probably not quite the answer most people expect... My guilty pleasure? A really good spa experience. I get both inspired and completely relaxed at the same time. It's a pretty fantastic combination. I pay attention to everything - the massage, the rituals, the way you are met. The warmth, the scents, the sound, the atmosphere. It's the small details that create the great experience. "I believe that the best experiences are created by all the small details that together make you feel good." Perhaps that's why it's my guilty pleasure. Because I go home with new inspiration and the feeling of having been looked after myself. What question do you get most often? Which treatment should I choose? That is undoubtedly the question I get most often. And I actually understand that. It can be hard to know what the body needs when you haven't tried the treatments before. Therefore, I have tried to make it as simple as possible. All my treatments have the same price. You can also choose a course of 3 treatments. Then you have the opportunity to try several different treatments and find out what suits you and your body best. You can mix & match the treatments as you like. At the same time, you save money. What's not to like? "You don't need to know exactly what to book. We'll figure it out together." If in doubt, you are always welcome to call. Then we can talk about how you are feeling, what your body needs, and together we will find the best match. What's your best advice for those who have a sedentary daily life? I think we make movement more complicated than it needs to be. My best advice? Move a little - but often. It doesn't have to be a tough workout or a long run. I think we sometimes forget that the body doesn't expect perfection. It just needs to move. A little more often. Stand up, take a short walk, roll your shoulders, stretch your body, change position. It's the small breaks that remind the body that it's made for movement. Not to sit still in the same position all day. The body loves variety and often it doesn't take much before you can feel a difference. "You don't have to do more. You just need to move a little more often." And most importantly, don't wait until you're in pain. Take care of your body before it starts screaming. Maybe it's your turn now! Were you reminded how long it's been since you last gave yourself a real break? Or maybe you just got curious about what a treatment with Katja actually feels like. No matter where you are right now, we hope you take one thing with you: Your body does its best to take care of you - and it deserves you to take just as good care of it.
