Why do we have puffy eyes?

Puffiness around the eyes, also known as periorbital puffiness, can occur for many reasons. The fluid balance in the soft tissue around the eyes is easily affected, and even small changes in the body's hydration or blood circulation can lead to noticeable swelling. While it is often associated with fatigue and stress, it can also be a sign of allergies, where the body's immune system reacts to allergens and leads to inflammation. In rarer cases, puffy eyes can indicate more serious conditions such as thyroid disease or kidney problems.

3 Tips to Manage Congested Eye Areas

1. SUFFICIENT SLEEP AND WATER:
Maintaining a regular sleep cycle and ensuring adequate hydration can help prevent swelling.
Sleep helps regulate the body's salt balance, which reduces the risk of water retention.

2. COOL COMPRESSES:
Applying a cold compress or chilled cucumber slices to the eye area can help reduce swelling.
The cold helps to constrict the blood vessels and can thus reduce puffiness.

3. ALLERGY TREATMENT:
If your congested eye area is due to allergies, it may be a good idea to talk to a doctor about possible allergy treatments, such as antihistamines or nasal steroid sprays, which can control allergic reactions and thus reduce inflammation around the eyes.
